Ready To Rock!

The very first concert I went to was to see Whitesnake at the L.A. Forum. I went with my dad and was so excited. Pretty soon the lights went down, the crowd cheered, and I thought it was so cool how everyone was there for one reason. The music.

My next most memorable concert was seeing Guns N’ Roses opening up for The Rolling Stones at the L.A. Coliseum. My dad and I were literally in the nosebleed section, up at the absolute very top of the arena.

Before I knew it, Axl Rose was singing Welcome To The Jungle and the crowd went wild. The Rolling Stones even blew me away and rocked out with their sock out.

My most unforgettable concert was when I went to see Nine Inch Nails for the first time. A band called the Melvins were opening for NIN and the crowd wasn’t having it. The floor section of the arena was a hockey rink covered up by wood.

The crowd got so rambunctious and started booing the Melvins off the stage. The poor band kept playing but then things took a turn for the worse when the fans in the floor section started tearing the wood off of the ice and chucking it at the band.

Except for the singer, the rest of the members dodged behind speakers and amps. Then a ball of fire (a t-shirt that somebody lit on fire) was thrown at the singer’s head. That was when he finally got the sense to take cover.

That’s when Trent Reznor had to come out and get the crowd under control during The Melvin’s set. He called everyone fuckers and told them to knock this shit off.

Of course since it was THE Trent Reznor, everyone cheered and went crazy by his words.

The most beautiful and intense concert I went to was when I saw Irish musician Damien Rice with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Once, which is such a beautiful film) opening the show.

My last memorable concert was when I was 7 months pregnant and went to see music extraordinaire Andrew Bird. Being heavily pregnant and standing the whole time was miserable but so worth it.

I love how music, especially live music, brings so many different people together. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do for a living, and such. Everyone’s there for one purpose. To enjoy great music, be moved by the beauty of it, and make fantastic memories.

What have been some of your most memorable concerts?

You rocker Elle! :) I love live music, watching a performance beats listening to anything on your iPod hands down. I was a festival goer when I lived in the UK and my favourite performances all come from Glastonbury stages I think. Groove Armada, Scissor Sisters, Fat Boy Slim, Damien Rice, Paul McCartney … even the Valkyrie Operatic Group, playing at dawn one Glastonbury day as the festival goers were rising from the night before. Awesome memories of some really great performances. Thanks for reminding me Elle!

I think this post best sums up my past and current thoughts on concerts.

I love live shows…especially in smaller venues now that I’m an older, er distinguished gentleman.
