Winecone Wednesday – Evolution of Words Edition

F-bomb. Sexting. Flexitarian. Obesogenic. Energy drink. Life coach. What do these words have in common? They’re all newly minted in the word nerd bible, “The Oxford English Dictionary.” Crazy huh? But proves the point. Language evolves. So we’re going to do something a little different today. And think about the communication of our winecones. Words to winecone. Because they grate. No: Really no explanation needed here. You ever tried to reason with a toddler? Good: Because it’s never enough. OMG: It is not a word. It is an acronym. Come talk to us when people start sounding it out. Meme:…

Winecone Wednesday – Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee Edition

Like a good colleague, I went to grab lunch with my coworkers today. (Ok, I really just needed a shot of caffeine. Also I was promised cookies.) After a particularly animated conversation, I dropped my arms to my sides. And experienced a searing shooting pain up my arm. I flailed and jumped – immediately noticing an angry yellow jacket fleeing the scene of the crime. Bastard stung me! Clearly I am a superhero. (Those buggers are known to be multi-sting stingers.) Only an itchy angry red dot remains of my wound. The wasp was swatted. Do not try to pollenate…

Winecone Wednesday – New York State of Mind Edition

It’s here. A year ago I saw the flood of tweets on the BlogHer conference and thought it sounded fabulous. I don’t “know” (in the face-to-face sense anyway) a single soul going. And it’s happening in Manhattan. I decided to take the plunge and sign up for something that could be so totally smackaroo-able or just a week of wineconing in the making. Some people seek excitement and thrills through daring stunts such as bungee jumping or skydiving. However I feel life is too short to risk losing my ability to control my bodily functions while attempting to experience gravity…

Winecone Wednesday – An American in Paris Edition

Twelve years ago I ventured forth to England to study abroad at Durham University. I landed at Heathrow Airport only to discover my luggage was missing. As I skulked toward the student bus with a teacher trying to get me to see the positive because SHOPPING (and I tried to explain a student budget with personal space issues including not wanting to borrow another’s undies), my name boomed across the PA. Richard Chamberlain had stolen my luggage. Ok, full disclosure, he accidentally grabbed the wrong bag because it looked exactly like mine. He likely got to his car and discovered,…

Winecone Wednesday – Measure Twice Cut Once Edition

Fear not. I didn’t forget this week. But I was preoccupied with the furniture. I’m doing this writer thing now. So I decided it was time for a new office setup. A nice cozy writers enclave to craft my well told stories (and throw winecones). Pottery Barn desk I’ve coveted for 10 years – thou art mine! Except, well, I didn’t measure the dimensions correctly. So while I got everything all set up (and it TOTALLY looks adorable), it didn’t really go together with the ease I had imagined, which then led to having to redo the husband’s section of…

Winecone Wednesday – Lady Killer Edition

I went to pick up my little dudes from daycare today. It was an experience – to say the least. I walked toward the play yard. A little blond girl yelled across the walkway, “Look Mommy! My Destroy’s mommy!” I reached the sandbox. A little blond girl threw her arms around Destroy before rushing her mom with another bear hug. I told the boys to say goodbye to their friends. Destroy pretty much copped a feel as he hugged his girlfriend goodbye. Destroy melted down into toddler hysterics because I had the gall to suggest he use his chubby little…

Winecone Wednesday – Independence Day Edition

Well if this wasn’t the easiest edition to come up with. It’s the Fourth of July! Hang up your flag, fire up the grill and have a chill holiday celebrating the birth of our nation. In true patriotic style, today’s winecones are thrown in true classic American style. Baseball, PB&J sandwiches, apple pie, red, white and blue Jello (with whipped cream) and hours spent in the pool to ward off 100-degree heat. (What – isn’t that how you do it?) My parents also have an outdoor grill and firepit in their back yard. You may think this is a recipe…

Winecone Wednesday – Space Squirrel Edition

Has anyone ever looked at you and said, “Just smile. If you smile, you’ll be happy. You can’t be sad with a smile.” This, of course, is bullshit. However, it’s always fun to find something that will genuinely make you smile. And that, dear friends, is Space Squirrel. This awesome extra-terrestrial rodent has generously agreed to share our delicious winecones via the A Nervous Tic Motion podcast. Take a listen below and howl at the hilarity. This brings me to my next point. The point of the winecone: airing of frustrations. It’s kinda the point of this whole social media…
